Point Loma Actors Workshop's The Forced Marriage leads our lineup of local productions
Ocean Beach, theater epicenter?: On Friday, Aug. 28, Antonio “TJ” Johnson gave a very good 45th-anniversary recitation of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech in Ocean Beach Park, underscoring the presence of his Vagabond Theatre Project of Ocean Beach, which has been kicking around in some form or another since the beginning of summer. Not to be outdone, the nutballs from Point Loma Actors Workshop will stage Moliere’s comedy The Forced Marriage, complete with 17th-century dress and audience participation, at 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 5 and 6, in O.B.’s Rec Center Park (corner of Ebers Street and Saratoga Avenue)—and it’s free. I said in a recent story that O.B. is arguably the most underserved theater enclave in San Diego; it’d be nice to think that the theater gods are finally knocking some sense into this community’s eclectic little head.
